Building Industry to Assist Bushfire Rebuild Efforts

The Housing Industry Association today set up a bushfire repair register for those who have lost homes or property as a result of the recent bushfires.

HIA’s Executive Director, Stuart Clues said that HIA has received a number of calls from those who have lost property in the recent devastation.

Mr Clues explained that “with the Christmas break up period about to start and the delays in being able to get builders, it is important that a process be put into place to assist those who have lost property,” he said.

“What we are suggesting is for those who have lost property to contact the HIA and leave an indication of the repair work which is required. In particular if the work is for the restoration of essential services then we will try our best to match a tradesperson with the urgent nature of the work.

“Like most people, builders traditionally take a break around this time of year and the most important thing is for those who ring the HIA, that there is as much assistance as is possible to provide details of an available tradesperson” he said.

“For some people losing everything at this time of year is hard enough, however if we can help with the rebuilding process then we should lend a hand and try to spread the workload to ensure that peoples lives are brought back to normal as soon as possible.

“Providing some certainty to those who have lost a lot is the least that we can do and if this makes peoples lives better at this time of year then it is the least that we can do as an industry body to play our part.
